Carolyn Louise Church Williams of Demorest, age 86, passed away Tuesday, February 3, 2026, following a period of declining health.
A lifelong resident of Habersham County, Carolyn was born on July 24, 1939, the second of five children born to Aubrey Church and Sallie Lou Adams Church. She graduated from North Habersham High School in 1957. Shortly after graduation and just four days after her 18th birthday, she married Morris Brady Williams. They were married for 49 years before Morris passed away in 2006. Carolyn was a member of Bethlehem Baptist Church, and she also enjoyed Bible studies with friends at other congregations.
While Carolyn spent many years working at Clarkesville Mill and at the family business Williams Produce, her true vocation was showering her family and friends with love. She could whip up a delicious home-cooked meal in a matter of minutes, and through some magic, she always had leftovers to send home with anyone who was dining with her. She was a voracious reader who invariably had a big stack of books and magazines next to her spot on the loveseat. Carolyn loved the history of the North Georgia area; in fact, she could connect the dots on just about anyone’s family genealogy in Habersham County. Carolyn was up for most any adventure, whether it was a quick jaunt one county over or a 2,000-mile round trip – she was ready to go at a moment’s notice!
Her parents, her husband and her brothers Herbert Church and Phillip Church preceded Carolyn in death. She is survived by a family who adored her and will miss her terribly, including: son Joel Morris Williams and his wife B.J., son Mitchell Phillip Williams and his wife Gayla and daughter Susan Williams Weidner and her husband Jim; sister Laverne Church Chamberlin and her husband David, sister Janet Church Taylor and her husband Jerry and sister-in-law Linda Bowling Church; 11 grandchildren: Ryan (Candace), Aaron (Kristen), Meredith, Paige (Micah), Sarah (Kyle), John, Michael, Matthew, Lindsey (Josh), Brandon (Jackie) and Logan (Megan); 13 great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
At Carolyn’s direction, there will be no formal visitation.
She will be honored at a simple graveside service at Clarkesville City Cemetery at 3:00 p.m., Saturday, February 7, 2026. The family asks that anyone who attends wear casual attire.
