Charles Franklin Holcomb

April 13, 1936 — November 22, 2025

Clarkesville

Charles Franklin Holcomb, age 89 of Clarkesville, saw the face of Jesus on Saturday, November 22, 2025, surrounded by family and friends.

Born in Buford, Georgia on April 13, 1936, he was the son of the late Benjamin Franklin Holcomb and Mima Lou Roberts Holcomb. Besides his parents he was preceded in death by his brother, Kenneth Holcomb (Barbara); nephew, Tim Holcomb; and great grandchild, baby Underwood

Charles served his country as a young man in the Army Reserves and worked for Georgia Office Equipment Co. in Gainesville. In 1967 he and his wife, Jane, opened Holcomb’s Office Supply in Cornelia. They continued working until 2000, when they sold the business to their daughter and son-in-law and retired. Charles loved his family deeply and enjoyed spending time with them. He also enjoyed traveling, golf and playing Hand and Foot with friends.

Charles was a member of The Torch in Cornelia where he served for many years as a small group leader. He also loved the church of his early years, Harvest Christian Church. He attended Georgia Mountains Tres Dias #3 in 1993 and loved serving on weekends with his brothers in Christ, as well as sponsoring people to attend weekends. If you were around Charles for any length of time, you knew that he loved Jesus above all else. He was not ashamed to talk with anyone about the importance of having a relationship with the Lord. He was generous, kind and had a heart of love and compassion for others. One of Charles’ favorite verses was John 13:35, “By this everyone will know that you are My disciples, if you love one another”. He lived this out daily.

Charles leaves behind the love of his life and wife of 67 years, Mary Jane Fry Holcomb; children: Marie Underwood (Dale) and David Holcomb (Sarah); grandchildren: Natasha Gebora, Michael Underwood (Lindsay), Amanda Hunter (Paul), Elena Morgan (Josh), Peter Holcomb, Lucy Holcomb and Clara Holcomb; great-grandchildren: Connor Gebora, Isabella Hunter, Micah Hunter, Brenden Hamrick, Misha Byrd, Nicolai Byrd, Adam Morgan and Tyler Morgan; and also several great great-grandchildren. He also leaves behind many special friends that were like family.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, November 30, from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm and 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at the Whitfield Funeral Home, North Chapel in Demorest.
