Douglas F. "Hoss" Hollifield

Douglas F. "Hoss" Hollifield, age 83, of Clarkesville, Georgia passed away on Sunday, January 4, 2026

Mr. Hollifield was born on May 22, 1942 in Rabun County, Georgia to the late Hoke Roscoe Hollifield and Oma Leona Stockton Hollifield Gunn. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sons, Jeff David Hollifield and Michael "Mike" Hollifield; and his grandmother, Hattie Williams. Doug devoted 30 years of his professional life to the Georgia Department of Transportation, where he worked as a draftsman. Doug was a proud veteran of the United States Navy, serving his country honorably during the Vietnam War. He was a faithful member of Wolf Creek Baptist Church After retiring, Doug embraced the joy of travel, going all over the county, but especially cherishing trips to Charleston, South Carolina with his beloved wife. Those trips became treasured memories filled with time together. Doug was also an avid football fan who found great happiness watching games alongside his sons. Doug will be remembered as a loving husband, a loving father a dear uncle, and a beloved friend.

Survivors include his loving wife of 55 years, Carol Jane Lewallen Hollifield, of Clarkesville; nephew and his spouse, Donald Gary Wood and Beth; nieces, Judy Bailey; Gail Lorentz and Tony; several cousins; and a dear friend, Calvin Speed.

Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, January 8, 2026 at the Whitfield Funeral Home, North Chapel with Rev. Michael Rogers officiating. Interment will follow in the Macedonia Baptist Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. to 1:45 p.m., Thursday, January 8, 2025 at the funeral home.
