Jeri Turner Massey, age 87, of Cornelia, Georgia, went to be with the Lord on September 30th, with her two daughters by her side. She was born on August 29, 1939 in Greenville South Carolina to the late Freddy Guy Turner and Ruth Hembree Turner.
At just 17 years old, she met the love of her life, her beloved husband Bobby, at a square dance at the Community House in Cornelia. That meeting blossomed into a lifelong love story built on devotion, laughter, and partnership. Together, they shared a life centered on faith in God and family, creating a home filled with love and lasting memories. Jeri was a proud mother to her daughters, Chris and Sandy, and a devoted grandmother and great grandmother. Jeri brought joy and love to many others, and her family will always remember the countless ways she cared for and supported those around her.
In addition to her parents, Jeri is proceeded in death by her loving husband of 60 years, Bobby Louis Massey, their infant daughter, Jan Marie, brother-in-law Billy Cody Massey, brother and sister-in-law, Rev. Charles "Bo" Turner and Emma Roberts Turner, sister and brother-in-law, Barbara and Roy Earl Roberts, Sr. and her nephew, Roy Earl "Robbie" Roberts, Jr. She is survived by daughters and sons in law, Chris and Chuck Adams, Sandy and Tony Pheifer, grandchildren Chase and Anna Adams, Cayla and Zach Blackmon, Frank Pheifer, and Nick Pheifer, great grandchildren, Anderson and Davis Adams, Charli Grace and McCoy Comer, and Emma, Maddie, and Avery Blackmon.
She dedicated much of her professional life serving the children of Habersham County through the Habersham Co School System as a paraprofessional for 30 years, most of that time was spent in kindergarten. She had a natural gift for working with young children and deeply enjoyed being around them. She found great joy in helping them learn and grow, and her kindness, patience, and encouragement left a lasting impression on countless students and their families. The laughter and energy of children brought her true happiness. She will be remembered for her quick wit, infectious laugh, love of children, devotion to her grandchildren, and the warmth she shared with so many throughout her life. Her presence brought comfort and joy to those who knew her, and the memories she created will remain with her family and friends.
Jeri was a faithful member of First Baptist Church of Cornelia and the Friendship Sunday School Class. She devoted much of her time to volunteer work through her church and community, including ministries such as Sharing and Caring and Camp Agape. Her faith and compassion were evident in the way she served others, generously offering her time, energy, and kindness to those in need.
A celebration of life will be held at First Baptist Church of Cornelia on Saturday, October 10th at 1:00 PM.
In lieu of visitation, a reception for all will follow the celebration in the fellowship hall of First Baptist Church.
In honor of Jeri’s memory, the family kindly invites guests to wear white to the funeral. White was her favorite color, and it would be an honor to see everyone gathered together wearing it as we celebrate her life. The family graciously encourages those in attendance to stay after the service to attend the reception to share food, fellowship and memories about Jeri.
The family would like to extend our heartfelt gratitude to the staff at The Waterford at Plymouth in Plymouth, WI for the care, kindness and compassion they provided her for more than 2 years.
