MR. HOYT POWERS, age 83, passed away on Monday, March 15, 2010 at his home with family following several months of declining health. Mr. Powers was born, October 19, 1926 to late Floyd and Bessie Stephens Powers. Mr. Powers was preceded in death, in addition to his parents, by his wife and mother of his children, Christine Barrett Powers, his son Larry Wayne Powers, who died January 22, 2010 and baby sister Colleen, age 4. Mr. Powers was retired from Cornelia Oil Company (Acree Oil Co.) as General Manager with 38 years of dedicated service. He was a long-time member of Level Grove Baptist Church, Cornelia, GA and a current member of Central Baptist Church, Gainesville, GA. He was former Chairman of the Board of Trustees and was the current Secretary of the 101 Bible Class at Central Baptist Church. Mr. Powers was US Army Veteran, having served his country in the South Pacific during World War II. He was also a member of the Grant Reeves VFW Post # 7720. Mr. Powers is survived by his wife, Mrs. Bobbie Evans Powers of the home, his daughter and son-in-law, Debbie and Carless Eller, Cornelia, GA., grand-children and great-grand-children, Christy and Charlie House, Haven House and Jacob Franklin, Cornelia, GA, Rev. Steve Powers and wife Michelle, Lindsey and Haley, Commerce, GA, daughter-in-law, Amanda Isler Powers, Toccoa, GA, step-daughter, Beth Evans Horton and husband Thomas, Adeline and Emelia, Gainesville, GA, step-son, Rusty Evans and wife Stephanie, Atlanta, GA, Tanner and Bailey Evans, Gainesville, GA, step grand-daughter, Carla Eller and daughter, Robin Whitworth, step grand-son, CW3 Chad Eller, on his third tour of duty in Iraq, and wife, Lisa and daughter Jana of Dictenhofen, Germany. Brother-in-law and wife, Lee and Doreen Barrett, Cornelia, GA, sister-in-law, Mrs. Estelle "Opal" Brewer, Gainesville, GA, Brother-in-law and wife, Harold G. and Elsie Thompson, Tucker, GA, Special Cousin and life-long best buddy, James Lee "Cub" Ivie and wife Pauline of Cornelia, GA, and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, March 18, 2010 in the Whitfield Funeral Home, North Chapel, Demorest, with Rev. Earl Pirkle of Central Baptist Church officiating. A eulogy will be given by Mr. James Delay, teacher of the 101 Bible Class at Central Baptist Church, Gainesville, GA. Flowers will be welcomed or donations may be made to the 101 Bible Class and Central Baptist Church, P.O. Box 444, Gainesville, GA 30501. The family will received friends at the North Chapel in Demorest from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. on Wednesday, March 17, 2010. Burial will follow at Level Grove Cemetery, with full Military Honors.
