Gillsville

Jeff Throneberry, of Banks County, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 1, 2025, in Northeast Georgia, at the age of 76.

Born on March 1st, 1949, in Seattle, Washington, Jeff was the son of the late Neal and Loretta Throneberry.

Jeff’s life was one marked by curiosity and service to others. A proud veteran and skilled craftsman by trade, he built his reputation on honesty, high-quality work and deep pride in making people happy with the results. He was especially proud of his role in restoring the historic Banks County Courthouse and the Hebron Schoolhouse in Commerce, Georgia, preserving local history for years to come.

Jeff was also deeply committed to the Scouting movement, where he was instrumental in designing and building the Uchee Lodge in Homer, Georgia—an enduring legacy that continues to provide a place of fellowship and growth for generations of Scouts.

Beyond his work, Jeff was known as a trusted friend and a man of many talents. He could fix just about anything, and his wisdom and philosophical outlook made him someone people sought out for guidance and good conversation. He was an avid reader, with a particular love for science fiction (especially Robert A. Heinlein). Jeff cherished time outdoors and traveling. After his tour of duty, he and his dear friend Mike Martin set out on their motorcycles, spending several months touring the country, a journey so memorable they later wrote a book about their adventures.

Jeff was preceded in death by his sister Judy Howe of Lula. He is survived by his brothers, Mark (71) of Lula, Georgia and Dan (69) of Columbia, South Carolina; his children, Natalie (and her husband Jason Eubanks) and Nicholas Throneberry; and three grandchildren who were the pride of his later years—Ulric Eubanks, Zebediah Eubanks, and Aedan Throneberry.

A graveside ceremony and burial will be held at the family cemetery near Tullahoma, Tennessee, with service details to be announced.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the Whitfield Funeral Homes & Crematory, North Chapel at 245 Central Avenue, Demorest, Georgia 30535. Telephone: 706-778-1700.
