Laverne Herrin Slappey

Laverne Herrin Slappey, age 72, of Clarkesville, GA passed away on Thursday, March 11, 2010, at the residence following an extended illness. Mrs. Slappey was born on December 24, 1937 in Demorest, GA to the late John and Effie Watson Herrin. She was preceded in death by her husband, J.L. Slappey, sisters, Beulah Mae Faulkner, Ethel Fair, Gladys Ferguson, Ora Lee Martin, brothers, Aaron, Talmadge and Eford Herrin. Mrs. Slappey was a member of the Mud Creek Baptist Church and retired from Carwood Manufacturing with over 20 years of dedicated service. Survivors include daughter and son-in-law, Debra and Jeff Lalonde, Clarkesville, GA daughter, Angela Grier, Clarkesville, GA; sister and brother-in-law, Naomi and Rev. Roy Lee Mitchell, Cornelia, GA; brother and sister-in-law, Marshall and Kitty Herrin, Cornelia, GA; 8 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren. Memorial services will be held at 6 p.m., March 13, 2010 at the Whitfield Funeral Home, North Chapel, Demorest, GA with Rev. Roy Lee Mitchell and Rev. Vernon London. The family will receive friends from 4:30 - 5:45 p.m., March 13, 2010 before the memorial hour.
