RETIRED US AIR FORCE LTC. ALTON CARR BROCK, age 83 of Cornelia, Georgia, passed away on Tuesday, August 12, 2014 at his home following an extended illness. Mr. Brock was born on June 18, 1931 in Clarke County, Georgia to the late Nicholas V. and Rosa Mae Alexander Brock. He was also preceded in death by his first wife, Delorise Glaze Brock; son, Alton Carr Brock, Jr.; and brother, Alex Brock. Mr. Brock was a member of Cornelia United Methodist Church, where he served as an Elder and Trustee. He was also the founder of Cornelia United Methodist Church Youth Center. Mr. Brock held several offices at the Cherokee Gun Club. He was a retired United States Air Force Lieutenant Colonel with 28 years of service. Mr. Brock was an EOD Commander in Vietnam and received a Bronze Star. He formerly served with the Georgia Department of Veteran Services. Mr. Brock was the first Magistrate Court Judge in Habersham County. He was a former member of the Habersham County Wall of Honor for Veterans Committee. Survivors include his loving wife of seventeen years, Doris Hanes Brock, Cornelia, GA; daughter, Lauren Drake Spratlin, Cornelia, GA; daughter and son in law, Sharon and David Westmoreland, Mt. Airy, GA; grandchildren, Adam and Kayla Westmoreland, Mt. Airy, GA, Candice and Justin Fisher, Toccoa, GA, Brandi D. Howell, Toccoa, GA; great grandchildren, Alyssa, Parker and Bailey Bramlett, Chandler and Mackenzie Howell. Funeral services are scheduled for 3:00 p.m. Thursday, August 14, 2014 at Cornelia United Methodist Church, Cornelia, Georgia with Rev. Richard Long officiating. The body will lie in state in the church from 2:00 p.m. until the service hour. Graveside services will be Friday, August 15, 2014 at 12:00 noon at The Georgia National Cemetery, 1080 Veterans Cemetery Road, Canton, GA 30114 with full military honors by the US Air Force Honor Guard. Rev. Ronnie Glaze will be officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6:30 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. on Wednesday, August 13, 2014.
