Steve Miles, 62 of Canton, GA passed peacefully at Northside Cherokee Hospital on Monday, January 20, 2026, after a brave battle with several health-related issues.
Steve was born on June 17, 1963 in Habersham County, Georgia and was the youngest child and only son of the late Robert Farrell Miles and Margaret Sisk Miles. He lived an amazing life with an open heart that saw beauty in everything and most everyone around him. He took the time to stop and acknowledge kindness shown by others whether it was to himself or to a complete stranger. He loved with all his heart and embraced each day as a gift to be treasured.
During his life he worked at Clarkesville Mill and Ethicon and was also a licensed EMT. During the 1996 Summer Olympics, he used his EMT license to help attendees at the games, who needed medical attention. During those two weeks, he even helped deliver his first baby at the games. The mother of the newborn used Steve’s name, and the other EMT’s first name as her son’s name. Later, in 2008, he was honored to be selected from thousands of applicants, the privilege of decorating the White House for the Obama administration and also had the pleasure of meeting the First Lady. After leaving the work force in 2016, due to health issues, he still made time to support issues that were close to his heart, or helped others in need. He also loved working in his garden and yard where he planted and grew some of the most beautiful flowers and trees. This beauty was a true reflection of the kind person that was loved by all who met him.
Survivors include his partner, Cary Smith, of Canton; sister and brother-in-law, Sandra and Mike Free, of Clarkesville; three nieces and their spouses, Hali and Drew Branson, of Mt. Airy; Jennifer and Caleb Tyler, of Clarkesville; Sara and Chris Bennett, of Clarkesville; six great-nieces, Kenli Jarrard, Kayli Jarrard, Kori Jarrard, Karalai Jarrard, Glori Tyler, and Bailee Bennett; and one great-nephew, Dane Tyler.
Steve will be truly missed by all of his family and friends, however, we know that God, his loving Heavenly Father, has a special place prepared for him, where he’ll be reunited with all of those that had gone before him. Steve would not want any of us to feel sadness for his passing, only joy, knowing that he is no longer experiencing any suffering, sorrow, pain or tears, only pure joy being made whole and happy again.
