W.C. "Bill" Meeks

MR. W.C. "BILL" MEEKS, age 87, of Cornelia, Georgia, passed away on Friday, February 18, 2011, at Habersham County Medical Center. Mr. Meeks was born on June 2, 1923, in Habersham County, Georgia, to the late William Burton and Clara Whitfield Meeks. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Christell Lawrence Meeks and sisters, Jewel Ayers and Irene Adams. Mr. Meeks was a graduate of Baldwin High School and a member and past master of Cornelia Masonic Lodge #92 F. & A.M. He was a proud United States Army Veteran having served in World War II. Mr. Meeks was a retired signal maintainer of Norfolk-Southern Railway with 44 years of service. He was a member of Level Grove Baptist Church and was a deacon. Survivors include his daughter and son-in-law, Gail and Bill Raper, Alto, GA; son and daughter-in-law, Calvin and Vickie Meeks, Easley, SC; sister and brother-in-law, Jeanette and Charles Martin, Clemson, SC; sister, Linda Williams, Mt. Juliet, TN; brother and sister-in-law, Lewis and Ruth Meeks, Toccoa, GA; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, James and Monteen Lawrence, Gainesville, GA; grandchildren, Brad Raper and his wife, Karen, Eric Meeks and his wife, Kenia, Julie Raper Hamby, Kyle Meeks, and Holly Meeks; and great-grandchildren, James and Lauren Raper, Luke Smith, and Ethan and Izaac Meeks. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, February 21, 2011, at Level Grove Baptist Church with Rev. Brian James and Rev. Terry Rice officiating. Interment will follow in Level Grove Cemetery with full military honors provided by the Rabun County DAV Chapter #15, the Habersham County American Legion Post #84, and the Grant Reeves VFW Post #7720. The family will receive friends from 3-5 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. on Sunday, February 20, 2011, at Whitfield Funeral Home, South Chapel, Baldwin, Georgia.
